Lag & Tech Support
Like some of you, I've been experiencing lag for the last two weeks or so on the American servers.
So I did what was suggested and opened a support ticket, sent my diag and trace files. At first TS wanted me to confirm my network connection/setup (mind you everything but GW works fine) so I gladly complied and ran several ping tests for them stripping out the router and such. That checked out OK, so they asked me to run more ping tests on problematic servers. No problems there, even though the side by side screen shots clearly show ping spikes despite the ping data. Now they tell me to run a spyware checker (barring that I already run Ad-Aware and ZoneAlarm regularly). I've sent those in too but I'm pretty sure sooner or later they'll suggest a reformat even though I'm OCD about my computer and already reformat my setup every few months.
The bottom line is, Anet has NO clue what's going on themselves. The way they approach the issue: first making it seem like a euro-centric issue only, then shift the blame to individual users gives me little faith they'll resolve the issue any time soon. For now I'm relegated to playing at 12-3am, the lag is a bit better then, but still in the 200s. Looks like it's time to scratch GWEN off the buy list...
